Still in transition between staying awake & sleepy mode after touchdown upon returning from Perth, WA last Sunday - haven't got enough sleep yet...

A perfect time to preview this film:

Written & directed by Christopher Nolan, who's climbing the steps of acclaimed filmmaker.

In short: This movie is about "exploring the idea of people sharing a dream space - entering a dream space and sharing a dream. That gives you the ability to access somebody’s unconscious mind. What would that be used and abused for?"

When I was in Perth, saw a lot of ads for this movie. Not surprising, since Nolan's last film (The Dark Knight) was overwhelmingly successful & starred by a Perth originated actor - Heath Ledger ofcoz.

For years, Nolan made-from-heart-films have never failed to impress most critics & moviegoers and so far these are the reviews for Inception:

Today marked the first time I donated my blood.

Yes, honestly I had a lot of excuses before (as most of everyone):

I'm afraid of blood & needle.

After my first experience today, I found out that blood donation feels good. In fact, it was too good that I think I'm already addicted to it (not to the extend of erotic pleasure of course...).

Hey, those blood are not ours. They're rewarded by God. Why so selfish?

Imagine 1 day your loved ones involved in an accident & there's no blood for them to replace their blood loss...

Mulai bulan ini untuk kasi lebih 'masyukkk' (tak pun bila tuan punya blog ni malas nak mengarang dalam English...) sesetengah entry akan dipost dalam Bahasa Melayu/Malaysia.

Semalam aku lunch dekat 1 food court x jauh dr opis. Masa tengah makan tu 'telinga keli' aku terdengar perbualan (@ perbebelan?) 1 grup yg lunch kat sebelah aku.

Girl: Lecturer to bengong sket... bla bla bla

Guy: bla bla bla... itu namanya lecturer pemalas!

Girl: Patutnya ...bla bla bla... tp dia ngajar ...bla bla blahhh....

Huh, berdesing telinga aku mendengarnya! Selamba badak je kutuk lecturer dia.

Bukan ke lecturer = pensyarah = guru? Kalu camni maner ler nak ada berkat blajo?

Bahkan dalam al-Quran digambarkan mcm mana adab sorg anak murid kpd gurunya:

Ertinya : Berkata Khidr (selaku guru), jika kamu ingin ikutiku maka jangan kamu bertanya apa-apa sehinggalah aku menceritakannya kepadamu " (Al-Kahfi, 70)

Who is Rosli Dhoby?

No, he's not the pioneer entrepreneur of laundry shops (aka Kedai Dobi). Neither photo above is the 'jambu boy' who alleged he has been sodomized by a prominent politician.

In fact, Rosli Dhoby (1932-March 2, 1950) was a Malay Melanau Sarawakian nationalist from Sibu, Sarawak, Malaysia during the British crown colony era in that state.

He was a member leader of the Rukun 13 organization, a secret cell organization which carried out assassinations of British colonial officers in Sarawak - Damn, that's cool!

Rosli Dhobi was the one responsible for the assassination of Sir Duncan George Stewart, the 2nd governor of colonial Sarawak in 1949 using a poisoned dagger (badik) - He was a teacher & just turned 17 years old at that time!

The price paid for his fight for the freedom of his beloved country? Rosli Dhoby was hanged to death at Kuching Central Prison on 2nd March 1950 & his body was buried in an unmarked grave.

Only after Sarawak gained independence & joined Malaysia in 1963 a tombstone was put on his grave.

In 1996, his remains (& 3 other heroes) were re-interred in Sarawak's Heroes Mausoleum near Sibu Town Mosque, his hometown & were given State Funeral - However, according to some accounts, Rosli's remains were mysteriously nowhere to be found.

His former tombstone in Kuching is now on display at Sarawak Islamic Museum.

Today, don't you think we are still ruled by the next-gen of British dogs?... It's now up to the Sibu people to decide & live up the fight of Rosli Dhoby this weekend.

Last Chinese New Year when my late mother (May Allah bless her soul) was hospitalized for the 2nd time, I tried to talk to the nurses at the ward's desk (7 Utara to be specific) applying for the Pass to accompany my mother.

One of the nurse replied since 7 Utara is for female patients only female companion could apply for the Pass.

I persuaded her for some exception since I don't have any female siblings in my family.

The nurse responded that it's the Hospital rule & she didn't want to be questioned by the Staff Nurse in charge of the ward for breaking the rule.

OK, I respected her discipline while cursing her in my heart.

Later on, I witnessed the nurses are surfing Facebook using the ward's PC.

My immediate respond was: F**k off with their disciplines & rules...

Compared to
a) Breaking a rule for a son whose accompanying her sick mother,
or
b) Breaking rule by surfing social website using official cum public hospital's cum government's cum duit rakyat's PC,

Which 1 is more severe crime & sin?

Oh sh*t, I'm typing this entry using my office's PC... Oopppss.. Wakaka!

Aside from that: My highest appreciation to doctors, nurses & staff of HUSM.

Ma, today is the 3rd day.

Ma, the 1st night was the hardest. I could barely slept.

Ma, I knew this moment would come. I just didn't expect it was so soon.

Ma, no matter how much we love you, God loves you more. At least I'm relieved with that.

Ma, we're still grieving on your departure. Not that we can't accept it but only because we're missing you so much.

Ma, I think I understand why Abah refused my offer to accompany him sleeping - 'coz sometimes we need to cry our heart out thus need a moment alone.

Ma, Allah is truly The Greatest. Out of 63 years of your life He only took 3 months of your health. And out of the 3 months, He only took you less than 1 month from home due to hospitalization. And He only took 1 week of your strength.

And finally Ma, He took your life away in a very calm & peaceful second. Though I'm a bit regret that I wasn't there, at least I'm relieved to hear that from Abah. And everything follows run unbelievably smooth...

My mum is bedridden...

My mum is currently bedridden.

It was the most painful sight of my life.

In my darkest moment, I'm taunted by the question of "WHY?"

Why did this happened? Why my mum? Why? Why? Why?...

And what a grateful memory when I remember my mum used to teach me the story of Prophet Ayyub (aka Job, peace be upon him) who was bedridden due to his illness.

Whose wealth, health & children were stripped of in split second.

Who held fast to his faith, neither shed a tear nor heaved a sigh.

Who remarked that all possessions and families' health were the gifts from Allah. If He had taken His things, it was useless to lament over their loss.

Whose example illustrates: Those who remain patient under the stress - of all circumstances, are never deprived of high rewards.

"And surely we try you with something of fear and hunger, and loss of wealth and crops, but give glad-tidings to the steadfast, who when a misfortune befalls them, say lo! we are Allah's (possession of Allah) and to Him shall we surely return. · Such are they on whom are blessings from their Lord, and mercy. Such are the rightly-guided." (2: 155-157)

Bitter Reality

No need to hide that this year I'll reach 30 years of age.

It's not my age that I'm concern about (neither that at 30 I'm still unmarried...).

It's just that I realized that my parents is now in their 60's.

It's a normal human lifespan cycle.

We are just mere mortals.

We grow.

We age.

Our health deteriorate.

Inevitably, our time on this world will come to an end.

And the people we love will no longer around us.

I wish at least that will not happen in this hard times.

Dear God, please give my family some more times together...

'Untimely' Death

Received 2 consecutive news of my old friends' death last weekend (total different situations).

Haven't in contact with both of them for quite number of years, but the news of their untimely deaths were quite shocking - both of them are in early 30's.

'Untimely '... Is it a correct word? Muslims believe that death is a must for everyone & it could happened anytime & was preordained by God.

Perhaps my time is a few seconds, or a few days, or years after this. Could be a hundred years later...

Anyway, it is not a time to mourn their departures.

I believe it's time to mourn on what has been spent on past years & the unknown futures of our (or rather MY) life...

Aircraft Cabin Lights Off

Another flying session last weekend.

After years of traveling by air, only recently I started to wonder why the cabin lights are off during take off/landing.

Of course just Google it & you'll get the answer in an instance. But how many of us really have the luxury & time to do that.

Here are some of the plausible answers:
(Bear in mind that take off & landing are stages of flight when aircraft are most prone to accidents & emergencies).

A) To preserve electrical power to run the important stuff.

B) The light may affect the cockpit, and the pilot may get a glare in the screen, thinking it is another airplane.

C) Dimming the cabin will adjust passenger's eyes to the amount of light outside, so it won't take time for the passenger's eyes to adjust in the event of an emergency.

D) So you can't see your life flashing before your eyes. Hehe... Shit.

No latest entry for quite some times, due to my beloved mom was hospitalized. So I had to travel back & forth SZB/KUL-KBR-KUL/SZB to visit her.

Since this few weeks I fly quite a lot, this entry is dedicated to the Malaysian way of air travel:

1. When the stewardess/ground staff called for disabled/elderly/traveling-with-small-children passengers to board, almost everybody would rush in. Yes, because we are all disabled - mentally of course...

2. Mobile phone usage is only allowed inside the Terminal Building. Checked.... and f**k off. So what? I pay for my phone bills using my own money! Interference with aircraft navigation system & possible cause of fire? Shove 'em up you a**!

3. For your safety, please follow the designated walkway to the plane. Checked... and also f**k off. I'm in a hurry, otherwise I won't get my seat or worse, the plane would take off without me!

4. Malaysian definition of hand luggage = as long as I can carry/drag it with my hands. When will you learn that size doesn't bloody matter?

5. The window seats are first come first serve basis, not even if your boarding pass has your name on it.

6. When the aircraft has landed, let us all 'give standing ovation' while waiting for the craft hatch to be opened. This is also to exercise our legs after sitting for a while.

7. Let's rush to get out, otherwise our luggage will go home on their own & we have to pay for their taxi/bus/ERL as well.

8. Repeat no. 2 & 3.

9. Of course, the classic habits - take home all items provided during flight (plates, cups, pillows, blankets, etc...). Which is why nowadays the airlines provide disposable plates, cups & rarely provide pillows & blankets. But i heard that every people all around the world did this, not just Malaysians.

Maybe I will set up a new airline company with a tag line:

"Now every idiots can fly!"

BTW: The lady 2nd from left is simply the most gorgeous stewardess I've ever seen. Hehe... Which makes me wonder, is she a stewardess for real or just model for hire?

This new year of 2010, I've really been into something to occupy my time as an unmarried guy... [sigh]

Compared to previous years (especially in Perak) when I was 'bored to death' due to no interesting activities to be done during my free times, this year I really missed a bit longer time for me to close my eyes and rest my body & mind.

This is my new year's daily life in the hectic KL life:

Monday - Friday:
Working from 8.15 am - 5.30 pm
Approximately 1.5 hours commuting; combination of to & from my office.

Saturday:
3 Lectures/classes for my M.Eng studies: 8.00 am - 6.00 pm

Sunday:
Again, another 2 lectures/classes: 8.00 am - 3.00 pm

Monday & Tuesday:
9.00 pm - 11.00 pm, time to shape up my body for mortal combat. Yes. Don't play-play...

I only have 3 nights during weekdays for my life. 2 nights during weekend usually can't be counted since usually I went to bed early.

Shit.

Though I have to admit it's quite fun & still ain't nothin' yet...

High Court grants Catholic publication Herald the right to use ‘Allah’ word again
KUALA LUMPUR: The Catholic weekly Herald is now free to use the word “Allah” in its publication after the High Court quashed the Home Minister’s prohibition against it using the word, declaring the order as “illegal, null and void.”

In her decision, Justice Lau Bee Lan also declared that under Article 3(1) of the Federal Constitution, applicant Titular Roman Catholic Archbishop Tan Sri Murphy Pakiam had the constitutional right to use “Allah” in the Herald in the exercise of his right that religions other than Islam might be practised in peace and harmony in the country.

She further ruled that the Constitution, which states Islam as the country’s religion, did not empower the minister to make such a prohibition.

What a surprise for a new year.

Probably I may not the most rightful person to comment on the court’s decision. In fact I’m not trying to, as I’m more interested to comment on the current atmosphere surrounding the issue itself from my personal point of view.

Some strongly disagree while some others agree under conditions.

Everyday we can see objections from certain groups. They are really fighting for it. While it showed their spirit to defend Islam, it also raised doubt in my mind.

Are they only defending the usage of the word itself?

How about the more important issues like continuing & expanding the teaching of The Prophet?

How about revamping the image of Islam that has been ‘scratched’ to the extent Islam is associated with terrorism, conservative & uncivilised?

And most importantly, how about adapting Islam in the right place – as the highest foundation of politics, jurisprudence, economy, social etc… How many of us really fighting for that?

I don’t know, I’ll just pray for the best.

The Real Truth Behind The Missing RMAF Missing F-5E Jet Engines - Updated!

Seriously, I've finally deducted the mystery of this case.

It's started in September 2009 with the announcement of the formation of 1Malaysia F1 Team by the Prime Minister.

In mid-December 2009, local newspapers published the story of missing Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF aka TUDM) F-5E jet engines. It was mentioned that the engines were missing since 2007...

2 friggin' years and now only it's heard? And just 3 months after the announcement of the 1MF1 formation?

"In the name of my grandfather... This mystery is solved!"

I received a shocking phone call,
it's from the PC service center where I sent my laptop for repair,
that my laptop was infected with too many viruses & beyond saving,
there goes my 5 years of personal & professional data...

Being optimistic, it's time for me to start a clean slate.
Moral of the year: Back up all your data...sob! sob!

The Truth Behind The Missing TUDM's F-5E Jet Engines

Few days ago, Malaysia was shocked with the news of a General Electric J85-21A after-burner turbojet engine – used in single-seater F-5E Tiger 11 and RF-5E Tigereye fighter jets – was discovered missing from the Sungai Besi RMAF airbase during a routine maintenance service.

Also missing were avionics system, maintenance and service records.

It was also confirmed by Ministry of Defense that 2 (WTF!) engines were stolen, with each costing RM50mil if they were new.

While we still can't forget the Al-Maunah's weapons 'heist' & use of armed force's C4 in the bombing of the late Altantuya, this is 1 fu**ing serious case! It's a matter of national security & Malaysia's credibility in the eyes of the world.

But while we continue to blame the government & the corrupt military officials, have we ever consider that all these military cases are actually conspired by this guy:

Dasar Pandang Ke Timur (DPT) telah diumumkan oleh Y.A.B. Perdana Menteri Malaysia yang ke-4, Tun Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamad pada 8 Februari 1982. DPT merupakan satu dasar untuk mencontohi negara-negara Timur yang telah membangun dengan pesat seperti negara Jepun dan Korea Selatan.

Dasar ini menekankan tentang pentingnya unsur-unsur ketekunan dan disiplin dalam kerja, perasaan taat setia pada negara, semangat kumpulan, keinginan menambah daya pengeluaran negara, meningkatkan kecekapan, mengurangkan pembaziran dan merapatkan hubungan di antara golongan majikan dan pekerja.

Strategi dasar ini adalah ditujukan kepada pembentukan sumber tenaga manusia menerusi penerapan nilai-nilai dan etika kerja yang terdapat di Jepun dan Korea Selatan dengan cara-cara bagaimana untuk meninggikan daya pengeluaran dan mutu kerja, mempertingkatkan pengetahuan dan kemahiran teknologi, membangunkan masyarakat Malaysia yang tekun, rajin, berdisiplin dan bekerja mengikut nilai-nilai dan etika kerja yang baik.

4th June - David Carradine was found dead possibly due to auto-erotic asphyxiation... WTF...

25th June - Michael Jackson died due to cardiac arrest due to combination of drugs.

Also on 25th June - Farrah Fawcett died due to anal cancer.

14th September - Patrick Swayze died of pancreatic cancer.

Oh ya, on 20th February - Socks, Bill Clinton's pet cat during his presidency was euthanized due to terminal jaw cancer. (Kucing pun kena kanser?)

All the above names are some of big names in Hollywood & world entertainers that died this year.

Know what, screw them all...

But I do give a damn for this person tragic's death:
Yoshito Usui, the creator/author/artist of Crayon Shin Chan.
On 19th September, his body was found at the bottom of a 120 meters deep cliff at Mount Arafune, Gunma Prefecture, Japan after a week of search & rescue operation following his missing during hiking there.

The Night of Power

1 Lo! We revealed it on the Night of Predestination.
2 Ah, what will convey unto thee what the Night of Power is!
3 The Night of Power is better than a thousand months.

A night between last night to 30th night of Ramadhan, lies a special night for Muslims which is the Laylat al-Qadr - the Night of Power or Night of Decree or Night of Measures. It is a night when all good deeds will be rewarded with more than 1000 months of the same deed performed continuously.

What interesting is Malays have their 'special' (read: superstitious) signs to hunt for Laylat al-Qadr. As far as I can remember these are some of the list:

1. Trees will bend down as they 'sujud'.

2. Water in wells & rivers will be frozen. Of course we're talking about here in Malaysia OK.

3. Light up as many oil lamp as we can, to guide the Angels of prosperity to our house.

And the most extreme sign of all:

4. Laylat al-Qadr will 'henshin'(lit: transform) in the form of a bearded old man with with white robe & turban. If we accidentally stumble upon him, we must not hesitate to hug him & ask anything. Then all our wishes will be granted. WTF...

That's all I can remember. Maybe there's more of them.

Luckily nowadays, people are more educated & these khurafat things are no longer heard (Oppsss... I didn't mean to revive them btw!). People are now really hunting for Laylat al-Qadr in the right way.

To all Laylat al-Qadr Hunters, I hereby wish:

Malaysia's 1st Submarine

Congratulations TLDM aka Malaysian Navy for the arrival of our nation's very 1st submarine.

The submarine is a Scorpene class submarine, operated by 32 crew members with ability to dive up to 350m (ok la, since Malaysian waters are not very deep).

It is equipped with six torpedo tubes which can fire simultaneously; anti-ship surface missiles and anti-submarine torpedoes.

Price of RON 95 at RM1.80 from Tuesday (Update)

KUALA LUMPUR: The newly introduced RON 95 fuel is now priced at RM1.80 - five sen higher than the previous RM1.75.

Meanwhile, RON 97 is upgraded as a premium product and has gone up to RM2.05 from RM1.80.

Domestic Trade, Cooperative and Consumerism Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the new prices were decided based on the current method of Automatic Pricing Mechanism (APM).

“Although the price is now 5 sen higher, the Government is still subsidising 33.81 sen per litre (of RON 95) which is equivalent to RM304mil monthly,” he told reporters after the launch of Primax 95 by Petronas here on Monday.

Observing fast? Is that something to do with running, then?

No.

Oh, what is it then?

Observing fast, or fasting, is when a person abstains (or keeps away) from eating and drinking.

What, you don't eat or drink anything? Don't you get hungry? I know I would.

Yes, that's the idea. We fast for 30 consecutive days during the month of Ramadan.

30 days? No one can go 30 days without food and drink-or can they?

No, that's right, which is why Muslims only fast during daylight hours. Once the fast for each day ends, they are allowed to eat again.

al-Fatihah: Prof Dr Abdul Halim Mat Diah

This is perhaps the most 'emo' entry so far - dedicated to a person very close to me & my family.

We affectionately call him 'Cakelar' - after my late grandfather failed attempt to pronounce & refer him as 'the Chancellor' for his job in UM long before I can regain my childhood memories.

He has known my parents even before I was born, perhaps even before my mum & dad were married to each other since his kampung located just in the same district as ours.

He also went to further his study in Indonesia as my parents were to the extent his late parents requested my father to bring along some budu for their son. However my father secretly refused since 'secupak' budu was no small volume & might cause international security issue...

Since then, Indonesia has a special place in his heart.

Back in Malaysia, he lectured in Academy for Islamic Studies (API), UM. Even in distance our family still maintain the close relationship (my family's in KB), his house in Sg Buloh is our shelter whenever we have things to do in KL.

He motivated me to study in UM, perhaps the best U (usually...) in Malaysia. Now I'm doing my Masters in Engineering, also in UM.

He helped me went through the bureaucratic SKR during my 1st registration for Foundation (Asasi).

Then without hesitation I invited him for a lecture during a spiritual event at 11th Residential College - my 1st co-curricular campus activity.

Upon graduation he invited me to become his Research Assistant with a salary of RM950 permonth, unofficially he was my 1st employer.

For 4 decades, we maintained our close family relationship.

Last week, on 17th Aug - the Independence Day of Indonesia, his favourite foreign country - he passed away due to heart problem, unexpectedly.

15th August 2009, 2 days before his departure.

My family was only aware a day later - much to our upset & I was in UM that day.

While my parents were still upset for not able to attend his funeral, I took it positively: Perhaps God didn't want us to be sad watching his lifeless body since for years we knew him, not a single moment he didn't burst with laughter & made us laugh together...

Thank you & al-Fatihah to Almarhum 'Cakelar' - Professor Dr. Abdul Halim bin Mat Diah for the wonderful moments. May Allah place you with His selected servants by His side. Amin.

What interesting is one of the possible etymology of the word 'mask' is from Arabic word 'maskharah' meaning the jester aka the joker aka the fool.

According to Shakespearean account the fools are usually clever peasants or commoners that use their wits to outdo people of higher social standing.

Once a while we meet fools in our life masked in a face of someone we knew & trusted - talk like Shakespeare & about integrity as their way of life.

Slowly but surely we were clouded with their sweet speeches & in the end we entrusted them with our investment.

Where the investment meeting took place

Turn out they're big assholes, robbing our investment & most importantly... our trust away.

For this kind of people, pity you for having financial troubles...

but most importantly pity you for officially losing my trust on you.

Ipoh's Meister of Wheel Allignment & Balancing

One afternoon at a petrol station in Ipoh...

See the cars lining up to the pasar malam umbrella?

They are on q to meet the only living Meister of Wheel Allignment & Balancing!

Dont play-play with this Meister, he do those 2 jobs online i.e without taking out your car tires & even turning off your car engine.

If you send your car to normal tire shops, they will use the laser equipped computerized sensor & the spinning machine wtf machine for allignment & balancing works.

This meister however simply give a big 'F**k You' the the hi-tec equipments & simply use these own-fabricated tools for allignment

& this I-dont-know-what-this-is piece of equipment for balancing

Watch this sequential pictures:

He simply jack up your car, ask you to sit with engine on, gear in & press the pedal while he handsomely monitor the tire rotation & feel the suspension.

Then stick some tape to the rim, watch the tape's rotation

& finally stick the wheel weight where appropriate to balance your wheel

For allignment, he put the tool with mirror on your right wheel

put the other pair (with some measurement markings) on the left wheel & monitor the reflections of the wheels & judge either the allignment is OK or not.

Honestly I don't know how he allign the wheel coz 2 times I went there I never saw how he did it.

As a real meister, size of vehicles does not matter.

I wouldn't surprise if he can service lorry or bus...

The meister is actually the 3rd generation of his family to provide the service here, unfortunately looks like there won't be any 4th coz people claim his children are not interested to continue their family tradition. It's a great loss...

In the end he charge RM5 per tire for balancing & RM7 per tire for allignment. Compare that to the proce charged by wheel shops.

However his service only limited to front wheels only.

So if you ever come to Ipoh & need some quick works on your tire, just visit the Meister in Shell Petrol Station, Jalan Datoh near Shen Jai School and you wont be dissapointed.

Weird posture of eating

There is a restaurant in Kota Damansara with a name of lemongrass (translate & figure it out).

Me & my friends went there couple of weeks ago for dinner.

When our ordered foods arrived, they were served in a mini-frying pans on stove instead of normal plates.

It's quite unique come to think of it.

However, being a soon-to-be safety practitioner I quickly noticed that it was an ergonomics nightmare of eating posture.

After dealing with some strain in my arms, I managed to finish my Nasi Goreng...

On 0815 hrs 6th August 1945, under the order of US President Harry Truman the nuclear bomb "Little Boy" was dropped on the city of Hiroshima, Japan.

The plane was B-29 'Enola Gay' piloted & commandeered by Colonel Paul Tibbets.

140,000 people were killed by the bomb, half of them were killed directly by the explosion - most of them were civilians - including 2 Malaysians. Over 90% of doctors & 93% of nurses were killed & injured.

Although the United States had dropped leaflets warning civilians of air raids on twelve other Japanese cities in advance, the residents of Hiroshima were given no notice of the atomic bomb.

3 days later, the city of Nagasaki shared the same fate...

It's always hard to debate whether the Japanese deserved the Atomic Bombs or not. But 1 ultimate thing for sure the innocent civilians never deserved them. That's the ugly face of war.

Come to think of it if not for the bombings, the Japanese might not reach their current super-advanced technological & manufacturing status and we here in Malaysia might currently speak Japanese, sing Japanese Anthem, trading using duit cap pokok pisang, etc...

Durian - the "King of Fruits" season has returned.

Staying in Perak, I however noticed the quantity of durians this year is lower compared to previous years. Perhaps the durian trees in Perak are stressful due to Perak Constitution Crisis?

As always, durian stalls mushroomed everywhere.

Interestingly, a durian stall in Damansara Uptown caught my attention.

In KL, it's common for durian stalls providing table & chairs for customers to savour durians on site.

The mentioned stall however, has this signage:

"Dijamin Makan" (Guarantee to eat)?

Either they claim their durians are purely irresistable or they will do anything to force the customers to buy & eat their durians by:

Put the parang used to crack durians on your neck & say: "Makan atau mampos!"
Threat you to whack your head with durians if you refuse to buy/eat.
Gas you to death by burping on your face after eating durians.

Pooh killed with durians & thrown to river

Of course I hope the sign means their durians are damn good.

BTW, do you know that durians are believed to have 'erotic properties' by the Javanese to the extend they have a saying...

"Durian jatuh, sarong naik"

A week ago, a Political Secretary of a Selangor's DAP Exco was found dead after assisting MACC's investigation.

His body was found on 5th floor, nine floors below where the MACC office is located.

Of course, the Oppositions reacted heavily on the death.

On the other side, a prominent figure said:

"Don’t politicize this issue."

WTF don't politicize? The dead guy IS a political figure! Of course his comrades will politicize this issue.

However, let's just leave the investigation flows.

Exactly 40 years ago, one of the greatest history of mankind was achieved, that mankind has set their rep's foots on the Moon.

The mission was Apollo 11 - launched on 16th July 1969 & carried by Saturn V Rocket. The participants were Mission Commander Neil Armstrong, Command Module Pilot Michael Collins, and Lunar Module Pilot 'Buzz' Aldrin, Jr.

Of course, the famous words by Armstrong are:

"Houston, Tranquility Base here. The Eagle has landed."

and:

"one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind."

Giant Sea Kelp

This is a Giant Sea Kelp (Macrocystis pyrifera).

It can be found in eastern Pacific Ocean (America) & also southern oceans (South America, South Africa & Australia). So I guess we wont see them here in Malaysia.

One fascinating fact about this kelp is that it's the fastest growing organism on earth with growth rate of two feet per day.

Damn, I could use that kind of ability on certain part of my body!

Just kidding ok, there's nothing wrong with anything on me but some good info worth sharing right?

One Afternoon at Pizza Hut

Last week, I went to Batu Gajah Pizza Hut Restaurant to do a favour to a friend. It was around 4pm. Actually I was on my way back to office from hospital, not 'mengular'.

Upon entering the restaurant, I was greeted with a total "silent-mode" atmosphere...

Not a single customer...

Nearly half an hour later...

I went upstairs to the washroom...

Complete bungkuih...

Last year it wasn't like that, at least there were quite number of customers.

While I feel sorry for the employees there, it also showed that the American-Israeli related product boycott campaign is quite successful.

No wonder KFC, McD & Pizza Hut nowadays have a lot of promotions & reduced their meal price.

Hopefully our next generations won't be so addicted to all those fast foods & Israeli products.

An Special Entry For Nicole Tan

There's a blog called Nicole Chocoa Heaven.

The blogger is Nicole Tan, a pretty girl from Malacca.

She is quite well known in Malaysia's blogosphere & has her own column in The Star every weekends. Damn, she must be making quite some money out of those!

She traveled a lot & her blog covers them pretty well. I admit that she is one of a few bloggers that inspired me to write.

She also loves scuba diving.

All these while, I never missed reading & enjoying her entries.

But her last 2 entries titled "Muslims Conquering The World?" & "It's called seeking Balance" made me feel uncomfortable.

Many readers criticized her, but I know a blogger like her won't give a damn about them, same as she won't give a damn seeing her pics in my blog. Heh heh...

Thinking deep, I quickly realized it's neither hatred nor anger that I felt, it's pity...

Pity her, she understands Islam from wrong peoples & wrong examples.

Most importantly... pity us, Muslims for our failure to demonstrate the beauty of Islam to beautiful & talented writers like Nicole Tan (& many others out there).

However, I personally can't resist to repeat a line from the movie Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen uttered by Wheelie to Megan Fox's Mikaela:

Mee Banjir Udang Mak Teh Kuala Sepetang

One of the most craved & overly hyped food is none other than Mee Banjir Udang Mak Teh in Kuala Sepetang, Perak. The shop has appeared in virtually all food guide programmes in TV.

Damn, the Mee Banjir is so tempting that deep down in my heart, it's one of the reason I moved from Johor to Perak (Yes, insane... and stupid).

Anyway, Mak Teh's shop is located in Kuala Sepetang not far from Taiping. To be more exact, just refer the map below:

From Simpang main traffic light, just take the road to Kuala Sepetang.

On the way, you'll see this Ngah Ibrahim's Fort aka Kompleks Sejarah Larut-Matang.

Keep going until you meet this new signboard on your left:

The main dish here is Mee Banjir Udang. They use fresh sea prawns here. And for a plate costed RM12, you'll be having 6 gigantic size sea prawns!

Aside from Mee Banjir (you can substitute with kuetiaw or beehoon), there's also Mee Goreng Udang & Nasi Goreng Udang.

After a while...

I'll definitely tapao the RM12 Mee Goreng Udang to be savoured at home, aside from the aroma in my car on the way back...

However, only 1 of the 6 giant prawns are fresh. Shit!

Personal notes:
1. A must try, especially if you're a prawn lover.
2. It's good due to the prawns.
3. They use fresh prawns for dine-in but 'not-so-fresh' prawns for take away, so enjoy the dishes there.
4. RM12 for 6 XL size prawns is quite ok but they also have RM8 & RM10 meal.
5. Quite crowded during holiday season.
6. The service is good, perhaps due to the prepare the kuah (gravy) in large amount.
7. Lots of flies. Interestingly the don't land on the prawns. Maybe they have boring or the prawns are heavily laced with formaldehyde. Hahaha! Joking only...

I noticed a newly opened ophthalmology clinic.

OK, my hometown Kubang Kerian is getting more developed.

Luckily nobody's injured.

How & why are the incident happened?

Unsafe work? Could be.

Poor engineering? Possible.

Corruption? Can not be ruled out.

However the real untold situation is:

Alien Baltan was reported to attack the Sultan Mizan Stadium when it was under construction, thus weakening the roof structure. It is possible he was also the culprit behind the Jaya Supermarket incident.

Unfortunately, during the attack not a single Ultraman was available - they were busy watching football (could be mud wrestling!) match somewhere else.
Shame on them!

When they found out about their mistakes & the incidents, they felt so bad & guilty.

Yik Mun Tanjung Malim Pau

This is my first attempt on food guide & review.

Anyway, let's head to Tanjung Malim, Perak where the Pau (Steamed Bun) has been famous for generations.

Located at the main intersection near UPSI, it's quite impossible to be missed.

It's open from 9am - 10pm daily. However the best time to go there is 9.30am as they also started to steam the buns on 9am.

So I ordered a refreshing cup of lemon tea while waiting.

My personal favourites are bean & kaya filled paus. Look at those!

The paus here are very fluffy, unlike any other paus I tasted anywhere.

Aside from paus, they also serve other typical kopitiam foodstuff. Too many that I won't list them out here.

They also have western foods... Wallahey! Prawn steak? Slurrrppp...

You can also buy frozen pau to steam back at home.

Honest review: The paus are good indeed but not enough to keep me addicted, but it's just me...

We all know that kangaroos are Australian national symbol, it's not just because the hopping marsupials are unique to The Land Down Under but they are also abundant there.

Samseng, ditakuti, digeruni - namun tak semestinya jahat, seorang yg baik hati ttp berpewatakan digeruni juga dipanggil ddebe.

Kenduri - perkataan untuk kenduri secara umum, biasanya kenduri kahwin.

Rasa kurang selesa disebabkan panas - tidak digunakan utk panas akibat cahaya matahari secara langsung, biasanya akibat ruang yg sempit @ kurang pengudaraan.

Bercakap Dengan Jin

I'm sure many of us have read or at least heard about Bercakap Dengan Jin (Talking to Djinn) series (later compiled onto serial novels) by Tamar Jalis. The novels were extremely popular in the 80s to the extend that it were sold more than 1 million copies.

The series were first published in the magazine Variasari, a popular mystery magazine just like Mastika today. In fact it was a huge phenomenon at that time causing dozens of other mystery novels with various titles & authors followed it's style.

I personally owed to the novels as at that time I was started learning to read and Bercakap Dengan Jin was my favourite novel.

The story followed the author's true supernatural experience (with some exagerations as he claimed) with his grandfather, a bomoh (spiritual healer) centered around Perak but also travelled to most of peninsular Malaysia and even to Sumatera in solving other people's out-of-this-world problems. I have to admit that his story was one of the reason I attracted to Perak, the state where I currently reside & work.

The author's experience & story revolved around normal traditional Malay's belief such as marriage with bunian (elf maybe?), keeping ghosts (hantu raya, toyol etc) as aid, crying graveyard, santau (voodoo-like magic), pontianak (vampires), keeping supernatural tigers as pets and so on... even the bigfoots!

Adding excitement & higher sense of realism to the stories was the author's detailed but natural writing style & his reference with hystorical events.

And currently in my parents house I can't resist to take a peek at my collection of the novels...

I wonder to do some Jejak Bercakap Dengan Jin, the location of the stories of course not the experiences... Kusss semangat...

Snatch theft: Another pregnant woman killed

KOTA BARU: A woman who was four months’ pregnant died after a run-in with snatch thieves here, just days following a similar incident in Johor Baru which also saw the deaths of a pregnant woman and her unborn child.

In the 10:50am incident on Wednesday, Saripah Mohd Nor, 34, of Kampung Kok Bedullah, Tumpat here was riding on her motorcyle on a busy road along Kampung Padang Raja, Melor, Ketereh when two men came up behind her on another motorcyle.

One of them tried to snatch her handbag, which was slung around her neck. The tussle caused her to fall off her motorbike and she was hit by a passing car. She and her four-month-old foetus died on the spot.

And since the police forces seem to be occupied with the latter, and our current laws looked quite inefficient to combat those petty thieves, here's my proposal to punish them:

Of course all that before we behead them, incinerate them & toss their ashes to seven different seas!

Siam Paragon Cineplex Experience

Exactly 3 years ago, during my semi-backpacking trip in Bangkok, I had the opportunity to visit Siam Paragon shopping mall, the biggest (I think) mall in Thailand. It's at least as big as Suria KLCC, maybe bigger. Coincidentally it housed the Siam Ocean World which is bigger than Aquaria KLCC.

It also housed the Siam Paragon Cineplex that simply can beat any cineplex in Malaysia. Why not? It has 14 screening hall with reclining seats which is cooler than Garden's (Mid Valley) Signature GSC, an IMAX theatre and the Siam Pavili, a lavish philharmonic hall.

I took the opportunity to watch the then-newly released "Mission: Impossible III". The ticket costed 160 Baht (RM16) each . The staff are much more friendlier than cinema staff in Malaysia, too friendly that they treated me as 1 of their own - greeted & spoke with me in Thai language... Dang!

However the thing that extremely surprised me was that they played their National Anthem before the movie started! And even more shocking was that everybody stood up & sang along... loudly. I had no choice but to respect that culture, after all I looked like 1 of them... Crap!!!

I remembered years ago when 1 of our Minister pitched an idea to do the same in our cinemas and it was greeted with super-ultra-megaton negative responses.

And can we claim we are more civilised than the Thais?

Maybe, just maybe...

Mother's Day

This year, Mother's Day will be celebrated on Sunday, 10th May 2009.

For those who didn't notice, it is celebrated on 2nd Sunday of May every year (subjected to region but Malaysia follows the original tradition).

Originally, it was founded by Anna Marie Jarvis (1864 - 1948, not "Jarvis" from Iron Man movie ok!) from US when she held a memorial for her dead mother on 12th May1907. She then campaigned for "Mother's Day" to become a recognized holiday.

Ironically, in 1920s Jarvis struggled to campaign against Mother's Day over-commercialization which led her to die in poverty.

How about our society?
At least we used to have the story of Si Tanggang aka Malin Kundang.

And how about these type of mothers of today?

Compared to this one?

Or maybe this type of sign encouraged the youngsters... Hmmm... Damn!

Starting last week we've been fed with swine (pig) flu news.

Hell, I've never heard of swine flu before.

Following that, chicken (poultry) market price started to increase forcing our government to take immediate action.

And don't forget we used to (and still) have the avian flu.

And mad-cow disease.

It's quite funny how mindless animals actually have huge effects on our human life.

It shows how we are so much depend on the animals.

Maybe that's what cause the animality in some of us...

Dad accused of murder may have molested daughters (Update)

Dragon

Dragon is perhaps the most famous legendary creature in almost every culture.

It is often depicted with serpentine/reptilian traits.

In eastern culture (especially chinese) dragon (loong) is a symbol of good, wisdom & benevolent. It is often associated with auspicious power & sometimes able to grant wishes.

While in the west, it is usually a malevolent, evil & feared creature. Those who are able to slay a dragon are acclaimed as heroes.

A dragon also usually depicted with fiery & smoky breath.

And being a legendary creature, nobody ever able to witnessed it. Neither even come out with archeological or photographic evidence - genuine at least...

But this blog entry will break that tradition...

Yes! I've seen a living breathing dragon & able to provide you with genuine photographic evidence!

Moral: Who says smoking kills huh? Who? This is a living evidence!

A bunch of guy who wear tight spandex & fight crimes?

A lead protagonist?

Or simply an "urang gila"?!

According to wikipedia:

Hero (male) and heroine (female) came to refer to characters (fictional or historical) that, in the face of danger and adversity or from a position of weakness, display courage and the will for self sacrifice – that is, heroism – for some greater good, originally of martial courage or excellence but extended to more general moral excellence.

Virginia Tech Massacre

2 years ago, a school shooting/massacre/mass murder/murder-suicide took place on the campus of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in USA.

It was the deadliest shooting incident in the history of US, that makes the world. Total body count was 33 including the perpetrator himself who committed suicide later.

The shooter was 23-year-old Seung-Hui Cho, a Korean undergrad at the university. He had been diagnosed with & was treated for anxiety disorder for years.

Approximately 2 hours before the killings, Cho mailed some writings & video recordings to NBC News. The package also contained a few photos of him:

Why So Serious?

Last week, a non-Muslim politician created some stir when he quoted a few verses from the Holy Quran during an election campaign.

Of course, being a politician in Malaysia means that everything you do will be backed up by your allies & heavily despised by your enemies.

Some quickly claimed that what the politician did was insulting Islam.

Personally, I think it is a development in our dakwah. It proved that the Holy Book itself is being studied by non-Muslims. And if a fierce person like Umar al-Khattab could embrace Islam after he recited a few verses why not our own friendly Malaysians.

Maybe an event during the Treaty of Hudaibiyah could refresh our memories.

Narrated Al-Bara bin 'Azib:

When Allah's Apostle concluded a peace treaty with the people of Hudaibiya, Ali bin Abu Talib wrote the document and he mentioned in it, "Muhammad, Allah's Apostle ." The pagans said, "Don't write: 'Muhammad, Allah's Apostle', for if you were an apostle we would not fight with you." Allah's Apostle asked Ali to rub it out, but Ali said, "I will not be the person to rub it out." Allah's Apostle rubbed it out and made peace with them on the condition that the Prophet and his companions would enter Mecca and stay there for three days, and that they would enter with their weapons in cases.

Last Friday, I took off down south to attend a friend's wedding.

I took the opportunity to visit my previous company's office only to be greeted cheerfully by my ex-officemates as I was still one of them. We had the most wonderful time ever.

I felt I'm more welcomed there than here at my current workplace.

1 & 1/2 year ago, I left my first company (after graduation) hoping I would be closer to reach my dreams.

However I found out that my first job was far more enjoyable & zero-stress compare to my current job.

Crap!

Was it the correct move?

Did I miscalculated?

How could I was so careless?

What have I done?

Is this a test for me? Or is it a punishment? Or a salvation?

I think the answers are both yes & no.

I believe that God has something more for me.

I believe that our path is not meant to be straight-forward & lame.

I believe in the Law of Attraction.

Do you know?

1) On 1st April 1946, 165 people killed in Hawaii & Alaska due to a tsunami. Most of them drown because they assumed that the tsunami warning was a joke. Poor bastards!

2) April Fool was the code name of an American agent who allegedly provided false intel to Saddam Hussein's military and led to the downfall of Saddam's government in 2003. Those damn dirty (but smart) Americans!

3) April Fools also did hit our nations important figure, Sir James Brooke,
the 1st White Rajah of Sarawak was forced to run butt-naked circling Padang Merdeka, Kuching
on 1st April 1865 after being tricked in a poker game by his future successor (also his nephew), Charles Brooke. It was witnessed by hundreds of local people & a few Iban children even managed to sumpit the White Rajah resulting in at least 3 blow darts stuck on his ass (haha!). This event was recorded in the book History of The White Rajahs (1960) by Nicholas Monsarrat - no photos however, only illustrations. I found this book in an antique bookshop located at LG of Sarawak Plaza.

Daulat Tuanku al-Sultan Kelantan

Today & tomorrow is the birthday of the HRH Sultan of Kelantan, Sultan Ismail Petra.

Since I started to have my memories, Kota Bharu was & still 'bathed with neon lights' for the next few weeks for the celebration of the King's birthday.

Almost all government bodies will erect their very own colorful Pintu Gerbang (what is it in English aar?). Even trees are not spared, they will be decorated with lampu lip-lap (Christmas lights perhaps?).

People from all over the states will head to KB to enjoy the lights, even from Kuala Krai, Gua Musang & Ulu Legeh.

I knew coz I was once did the same thing. My parents told me that when I was about 3-4 yrs old (at that time our family resided in Pasir Puteh, 40km from KB), I asked them to bring me to KB to watch all the Pintu Gerbang.

So my parents, as a sign of love to their children, take us to KB one night.

My abah drove us all the way from Pasir Puteh only to found me already fell asleep way before we reached KB...

As Kelantanese would say: "Bejurus punyo budok!"

Warga Nigeria menipu dipenjara 16 bulan

KUALA LUMPUR 24 Mac - Seorang wanita warga Nigeria dihukum penjara 16 bulan oleh Mahkamah Majistret di sini hari ini selepas mengaku salah menipu seorang kakitangan awam mengenai hadiah kemenangan bernilai AS$1 juta (RM3.6 juta), tahun lalu.

Majistret Siti Shakirah Mohtaruddin menjatuhkan hukuman tersebut ke atas Peace Okotie, 26, yang didakwa di atas dua pertuduhan iaitu, menipu dan tinggal di negara ini tanpa dokumen sah.

After nearly 4 years of working finally I have my first MC due to fever.

And it was a 3 days MC... hehehe

Yes, a fever! I celebrated my 'MC-zero virginity' loss by spending most of my time on bed... & watching DVDs...

It's quite 'interesting' catching fever when you're a lone ranger, everything have to do on your own...

Thank God it's not dengue, malaria, yellow fever or whatsoever.

Next time, I hope I'll get MC for this fever:

Raja Kamarul Bahrin, A Revisit

Tomorrow is 4th March - public holiday in Terengganu Darul Iman as it is the Anniversary of Coronation of Sultan of Terengganu.

Speaking about the Royalties of Terengganu is quite impossible not to remember how Raja Bahrin (a royalty from Terengganu) 'smuggled' his kids from Australia in 1992 after he divorced his Australian wife, Jacqueline Pascarl. Actually I didn't like the word 'smuggle' since he did it to protect the kids' faith - Jacqueline murtad after the divorce. At that time he did not reveal to the press how he struggled bringing them by boat from Australia to Indonesia and later to Malaysia, claiming only that it was "the will of Allah".

It's heart-touching how Raja Bahrin raised his kids without poisoning their mind to hate their mother & 14 yrs later allowed them to seek her in Australia.

However at the same period of time, Jacqueline demonized Raja Bahrin (Australian press dubbed him 'The Snatcher'), interesting enough American press said that she did for the sake of popularizing her books.

By the way, Raja Bahrin is now a well known architect & his kids (Shahirah & Iddin) has grown well... Too well, bcoz Shahirah is heavenly pretty... to the extent that she visited her mother in 2006 partly because she (Shahirah) was under stress.

The reasons for her stress?
1) She had an accident &
2) One of her univ lecturer tried to seduce her...

If I know who that motherf**king lecturer is, I'm gonna fry his ass!

Bottomline: I just pray for their happiness...

Kkecek Kelate

Perhatikan ulangan pada huruf 'k' dalam 'Kkecek Kelate' di atas.

Banyak perkataan dlm loghat kelate mempunyai sebutan berulang bagi huruf pertamanya.
Perkataan ini disebut berulang sama seperti baris 'tasydid' @ 'sabdu' dalam Bahasa Arab.

Perkataan2 ini biasanya adalah:
i) kata nama terbitan drpd kata kerja, atau
ii) sebaliknya (kata kerja drpd kata nama), ataupun
iii) menghala ke sesuatu tempat.

Bg (i) & (ii) bolehlah dianggap spt 'masdar' dlm pengajian Bahasa Arab atau perkataan dgn '-ion' dlm Bahasa Inggeris.

Arab: kataba (tulis) - maktab (tmpt menulis)
English: pronounce (sebut) - pronounciation (sebutan)

Kelate: i) sapuh (sapu) - nynyapuh (penyapu)
colek (cicah) - ccolek (pencicah)

ii) basuh (basuh/cuci) - bbasuh (membasuh/mencuci)
nanoh (nanah) - nnanoh (bernanah)

Bg (iii), ia adalah unik utk kkecek kelate shj.

Cth: Kedoh (Kedah) - KKedoh (Ke Kedah)

Keda (kedai) - Kkeda (Ke kedai)

Namun, kdg2 penggunaan sebutan berlapis ini boleh membawa kpd makna yg sgt berlainan.

Cth: Kecek (Bodek) - Kkecek (Bercakap @ percakapan)

Kesimpulan:
Susah lah sikit sbb takde grammar yg khusus utk sebutan berlapis dlm Kkecek Kelate... tp mcm tulah serba sikit. Nak tau lebih lanjut, kahwinlah dgn Mek Kelate & menetaplah di Kelate & makanlah budu bnyk2!

Bahasa Melayu Loghat Kelantan = Kkecek Kelate

Kkecek Kelate adalah 'lingua franca' untuk seluruh negeri Kelantan Darul Naim termasuklah kawasan2 yg bersempadan dgnnya. Ini meliputi Negeri Terengganu (daerah Besut & Setiu) & Pahang (Merapoh & sebhgn kecil Lipis).

Negeri Perak tak masuk sbb sempadan Perak-Kelantan adalah hutan tebal & sgt sedikit penduduknya, namun jika gajah & harimau boleh berbicara nescaya mereka juga akan Kkecek Kelate. Bahasa yg seakan2 sama juga dipertuturkan di selatan Thai disbbkan tali persaudaraan yg erat antara Kelantan dgn Selatan Thai bahkan sesetangah pihak beranggapan penduduk Melayu selatan Thai turut Kkecek Kelate.

Tatabahasa:
Senang sahaja - semua perkataan Bahasa Melayu yang berakhir dgn sukuan 'an', 'ang' & 'am' ditukarkan kepada 'e' (e taling, yg digunakan dlm sebutan 'merah', 'Perak' & 'berak').

Bagaikan kilat memancar, terbit satu persoalan. Adakah kelemahan aspek penjagaan makanan di pasukan negeri atau kelab yang bersaing di Liga M menjadi punca pemain kurang cergas?

I used to work in Pasir Gudang not far from Stadium J-Corp (ala Old Trafford for the Johor Pasir Gudang Football Team).

From my observations, these players routine after their morning practice was to 'lepak-lepak' while having roti canai & teh tarik...

Imagine those in Kelantan or Terengganu where their breakfast is Nasi Berlauk, Nasi Dagang, Nasi Kerabu.... and all sorts of heavy meals.

And we're talking about world class athletes?

In addition, growing up for nearly 29 years watching the his movies has enabled me to memorized most of the lines...

Compare to current so called comedians that make us feel annoyed rather than laughed.

Finally... The Dark Knight

No other movie that I sincerely wanted to blog other than The Dark Knight (2008).

Yes, I admit I am a Bat-maniac.

The film follows Bruce Wayne/Batman, Lieutenant James Gordon & District Attorney (DA) Harvey Dent struggle to deal with the chaos unleashed by an anarchist mastermind known only as the Joker. While Batman pushes himself to the extent of beyond normal heroism and Gordon have to deal with it, Harvey Dent transforms from the heroic DA to the disfigured killer Two-Face.

This movie is more a crime movie than a superhero/comic book movie. It depicts the gritty escalation in criminal underworld caused by a man fighting it while dressed up as a giant bat & a fallen hero succumbs due of his passion in legal justice. Not to forget the Joker who is a "psychopathic, mass murdering, schizophrenic clown with zero empathy".

This movie was a both critical & commercial success garnering worldwide praises & a $999,292,907 gross revenue. However it was snubbed (idiot!) in the upcoming Oscar & failed to contest in Best Screenplay, Best Director & Best Movie categories. It was nominated for other 8 categories anyhow.

As a tradition of amirmukhtar reviews:

This movie shows a hero (Batman) sacrifices his image to ensure the people will not lose hope after the Joker successfully turn a legal hero (Dent) into a killer.

Batman persuaded Police Commissioner Gordon to blame himself (Batman) responsible for the murders.

Dent's heroism was purely due to his personalities & position as a legal official while Batman heroism is based on a symbol. And a symbol is indestructible and incorruptible .

Morale:

Don't you think we should always elect a hero/leader based on the symbol/principles rather than personalities & position (and sweet promises)?

Leaders come & go...

But principles will remain whoever fill the post.

National Treasure (2004)

Since 81st Academy Awards will be held this weekend, my entries for this 1-2 weeks will be focusing on & around films & movies. However they all will be in amirmukhtar ways...

National Treasure, a 2004 adventure movie starring Nicolas Cage about a search of worldwide lost treasure guarded by the Knights Templar & Freemason which leads to a invisible map at the back of US Declaration of Independence & the stealing of it. The film was very interesting & entertaining. It was a fun mixture of conspiracy theories, fictionalized twist of real life history & sort of like The Da Vinci Code style.

I remembered watching it in GSC Mid Valley on an evening just as I arrived in KL from KB. Damn... Couldn't even managed to reach my rental house in Pantai Dalam...

Among all the fun & pure entertainment, there were 2 lines that really caught my attention. One is when the protagonist reads a line from the Declaration of Independence:

"But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security."

Still no idea?

In simple words:

If there's something wrong,
those who have the ability to take action
have the responsibility to take action.

The other line is near the end of the movie,
regarding The Founding Fathers of America believed that a government was too great for any one man to have, therefore the only solution is to give it to the people...

How noble words,

How appropriate are they with our current situations,

How I wish my entry will reach voters in Bukit Selambau & Bukit Gantang.

This is my first attempt on film preview.

I'm not really a huge fan of Transformers but the robots in disguise have a special place in my history. 20 years ago, one of my first toys is actually a Decepticon, a gift from my uncle who was studying in Japan at that time.

Fast forward to 2007, a live action Transformers movie was the highest grossing movie in Malaysia. I'm one of the contributor...

This summer, the robots will return to big screen & I mean BIG 'coz it will also be in IMAX & in 3D. FYI, IMAX 3D is far more advance from Jaws 3D which you have to wear the cheap-ass red-green spectacles. It's like comparing a Cybertronian robot with an Earth robot.

Back to the film, this time Sam Witwicky discovers something about the origins of the Transformers and their history on Earth. The evil Decepticons need to capture him for information. The climactic battle takes place at the Giza Pyramid Complex, where a temple is located within. The film will show the Transformers who visited Egypt before the pyramids were built, and all heroes end up there because of the Decepticons' masterplan.

The teaser looked good & this film might be able to surpass it's predecessor.

Cool badguys will include The Fallen, who in Transformers universe is one of the original Transformers & the one responsible to divide the Transformers.

Another one is (or rather are) Constructicons, a group of construction vehicles Decepticons that can combine into the gigantic Devastator. If you have seen the teaser, the giant robot that Optimus Prime jumps off on it will only form the torso.

Believable rumors are Megatron is resurrected and a sex scene.

Don't try to fantasize a sex scene that involves the super-hot Megan Fox ok?

The scene will involve Optimus Prime himself.

OK, just kidding. Actually Mr Prime will also combine with another high class robot & seriously I hope nothing sexual between them.

I'm definitely looking forward for this movie however since the Executive Producer is Steven Spielberg & I'm still in Israel-boycotting mood, I might have to pass it or at least thinking twice before watching...

Sugar Crisis

Why are there too many crisis in our country?

Political crisis.

Constitutional crisis.

Economical crisis.

And now, sugar crisis.

Last weekend I went to Damansara Uptown Food Court for dinner. One of my friend ordered: "Makcik, teh o satu, kurang manis ye." (Untie, may i have a mug of less sugar tea O please?).

He ended up pouring his tea in my glass after i finished my drink bcoz it's too sweet - it could kill a single diabetic ant instantly.

Next morning, we went to a another warong for breakfast & he took a mug of plain water - it was readily available in a jug on the table.

and..

WTF? The plain water also tasted sweet!

Quoting my friend's:

"What the hell is wrong with these people?!!!"

And in the news almost every night people complaining about the sugar shortage?

Pardon me, i think i'm having sugar rush.
